About ‘Sunset at the Schipbeek’ by Jan Waanders

A monumental autumn landscape in which nature seems to be ablaze. Towering trees in deep red, orange and gold dominate the scene, while a low sun makes its way through the foliage. The light reflects beautifully in a tranquil watercourse that winds its way through green banks — a play of fire and water that makes the canvas vibrate. The impasto technique is at its most powerful here: thick layers of paint are applied in an almost sculptural manner, bringing the surface to life and making it move. The swirl of warm and cool tones — the fiery red against the deep green of the grass and water — creates an almost hallucinatory intensity. It is reminiscent of Van Gogh's expressive power, but with a vision of the Twente landscape that is entirely its own. This is a work that completely transforms a space. It draws you in and won't let you go.

Jan WaandersJan Waanders is a self-taught artist from Markelo, originally from Goor. He drew a lot from an early age, but it was his working life as a house painter that occupied him for many years. Around the age of forty, he took up art again in earnest – and never looked back. Jan works mainly in oil paint and watercolour, supplemented by pen drawings and mixed media in which he combines ink with oil paint. His oil paintings are characterised by an impressionistic style…

What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
