About Jehan Calvus Art
I am a painter, draughtsman and author of handwritten and illustrated art books. My work lies within the realm of the surreal and the fantastical, and is closely linked to my experiences, thoughts and observations.
In my paintings, reality and imagination, mythology, nature, human existence, poetry and the absurd come together. I am also interested in the connection between image and language. That is why writing, texts, symbols and calligraphic elements play a special role in my work.
Handwritten and illustrated art books and manuscripts form an essential part of my work. In them, drawings, texts, symbols and writing combine to form visual compositions.
Mirandola occupies a special place in my work – a virtual world I have created, with its own geography, history, culture and mythology. It forms an imaginary space where reality and fiction meet, and from which motifs, stories and images emerge. I also present my artistic work and this world under the name ‘Mirandolarte’.
Alongside this, I create paintings and drawings that range from figurative representations to surreal and fantastical visual worlds. In doing so, I am seeking not so much a fixed stylistic formula as my own visual language, in which the real, the remembered, the imagined and the invented interact with one another.
