Tips for use

About ‘An obituary in the form of a drawing’ by Jehan Calvus Art

This work was created in 2013, deeply influenced by the destruction of old trees in Vienna’s Prater. Jehan Calvus also recorded this experience in his handwritten and self-illustrated manuscript, *MEGA TERA IDEON*. Despite its dramatic background, the finely detailed drawing, with its warm tones, possesses an almost poetic atmosphere. The shape of the broken tree trunk is reminiscent of a female body. This fusion of plant forms – and sometimes animal forms – with the human figure is a characteristic feature of Jehan Calvus’s art. The boundaries between humankind and nature seem to dissolve time and again.
The version presented here was created from two parts of the original drawing, which the artist himself had assembled, and has been slightly adapted for the art print. The handwritten Romanian text from the original has not been included.
