Joop Luimes (Gendringen 1957) has been photographing since his youth. A simple darkroom was set up in the attic, where the exciting moments when an image entered the developer made an indelible impression. The predilection for black-and-white photography in particular was born here. From 1992 to 1994, Joop studied Reportage Photography at the Fotovakschool in Apeldoorn (alongside his work as a primary school teacher). Since January 2001, he has worked as an independent portrait and reportage photographer and teaches at the Fotovakschool. Besides working on assignment (both in studio and on location), he also spends time on free work: this has resulted in various projects, such as 'Women & Tattoos' (about women with tattoos and the story behind them), 'ROOD' (for which more than 100 redheads photographed from young to old, M/F) and Jazz portraits. Exhibited among others in the Kunsthuis in Epe, gallery Bruno Barat in Hattem, Schouwburg Orpheus in Apeldoorn and several times in brasserie 't Vliegerhuys in Zwolle. These series are also available as corporate art loans.
