Fascination literally means enchantment. As a child I was enchanted by the kaleidoscope. It was a real miracle to turn the ordinary world into a magical environment. Now when I look through the lens of the camera, I look for such fascination. I am looking for patterns and compositions in surfaces that can be used to create that magical look.
For me, a photograph is not the end result of an event in the form of a story, but the beginning of a journey of discovery through the universe of possible (imaginary) images and experiences. I look for a composition that supports the transition from photographic reality to imagination. That is the basis for editing. But that composition must remain recognizable as a photograph. Because that is the starting point for the imagination and the fascination of the viewer.
