When I am asked the question; "where did your passion for photography originate"? Then I often think back to the flash cubes on the camera my parents used to have. I thought it was magical. You could only take four photos with it, so you had to choose your moment carefully. Somewhere in my youth, I bought a Konica with the money I had earned from a holiday job. This still used rolls of film. This was replaced in my student days by an SLR. That was a good investment, and I enjoyed it for years. Recently, the SLR was replaced by a system camera, because the SLR started to falter too often. And that is not what you want when you are on your knees in the mud trying to capture "the" moment.
Because that is where I do prefer to be photographing, outdoors. But, as the weather in the Netherlands is not always favourable, I have recently also started taking photography outside my comfort zone. Photographing with artificial light in a studio. And I like that surprisingly well, there is still so much to learn here. For that matter, I am far from finished learning outside, there is still a lot on my wish list that I would like to photograph. Not exotic places, but rather moments (during the day), certain light conditions, colours and structures. For me, photography really is a moment where I can get totally absorbed and forget everything around me.
