About Paul Hoppe Fotografie

Hello, I'm Paul Hoppe and a documentary photographer from Berlin and Potsdam.

Photographs and texts about society, economy, psychology, philosophy, art, culture and urban life. Every picture documents and tells a story.

I spent my childhood in the 1980s in the former GDR. The rapid changes after the fall of the Berlin Wall had a strong impact on me and opened my eyes to two very different but in some aspects similar systems. I lived in Berlin for a long time and was able to witness the merging of systems and people as well as the rapid changes. I think this has awakened my early interest in documenting such processes.

I have been doing documentary photography since the early 2000s. I have presented my work on various websites and sold some images to other websites and publishers. I had a similar blog when blogging was fairly new and WordPress was still in beta. My other career (and family) eventually took up so much of my time that I just photographed for myself and neglected the first professional aspect. Now I've had enough of a career in my uncreative job and decided to reduce my hours to focus on photography again.
