About Pia van Spaendonck

After already a very long career as a photographer, I am now cleaning up my archive.
Some of my work is analogue and is being digitised.

For years, I have been working as a garden and interior photographer and published in all kinds of beautiful, national and international magazines.
I started my career as a fashion photographer in Amsterdam and later Paris.
Between jobs, I made free work from which several exhibitions resulted.
I participated in a small group exhibition (Fashion Photography ), in the late 1980s, at the Haags Museum.
In the early 2000s, I exhibited at Breda's Museum and the Markiezen Hof in Bergen op zoom.
The Museum van De Geest in Haarlem was my recent expo in 2018.

I graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts Sint Joost in Breda in 1976.

Photography is a wonderful medium to shape your view of life.
Lots of subjects inspired me. From fashion photography to making a reportage about mentally disabled people, for instance.
My photography is simple and seeks stillness.
I find inspiration in painting and sculpture. Vermeer and Rembrandt, but also, for instance, Jan Toroop, Kees van Dongen and van Gogh. As a five-year-old, I regularly visited the Rijksmuseum with my mother and this has certainly subconsciously influenced my photography.
