I have been taking photographs for many years – and I am still fascinated above all by the moment between things. My pictures often look like frozen film scenes, so-called "cine stills": fragmentary, suggestive and emotionally charged. Sometimes rough and retro, sometimes quiet and contemplative. The focus is almost always on people – embedded in their environment, shaped by relationships, time and the past, and often by the longing to break out of these circumstances.
I am less interested in the obvious than in what lies in between – the questions that remain long after the image has faded. Many of my motifs revolve around strong personalities, often female figures who are shaped by their environment. Paths that lead into the unknown, urban spaces that seem to bring us together and yet often only reveal the bustle of quiet isolation. Added to this are places full of nostalgia and decay – spaces whose original function has long since disappeared and which today resemble landscapes of memory.
I work both analogue and digitally and am increasingly devoting myself to the new possibilities offered by artificial intelligence. I am particularly interested in the connection between these media: classic photography meets new visual worlds, the past meets the future. This mixture gives rise to images in which cinematic aesthetics, nostalgia and modern imaging technologies come together.
