Susan's paintings are always created from the same angle: colourful, energetic and cheerful. She enjoys working on commission because the customer's request always inspires her. She continues to find it very special that customers all over the world buy her work from just a photograph. 'The nice thing is, I know that a work is always prettier in 'real life' so it will never disappoint,' says Susan. Wiping out, building up, wetting, blow-drying, finishing, throwing away, starting again, it's all part of the process. This whole process, layer upon layer makes an artwork exciting and gives it an extra dimension. Sometimes a sketch is good in one go, but often several disappear into the bin first. 'Fortunately, I realise that every sketch is useful and adds something to the result. Perseverance is always rewarded,' Susan Ruiter says.
