About Thomas Röell
Photography and travel are a recurring theme throughout my life. As a pilot with KLM, I get to visit extraordinary places all over the world and have the chance to capture landscapes, cities and moments that I might otherwise never have seen.
This combination of flying and photography never ceases to inspire me: from the first light over an awakening city to impressive landscapes and unique perspectives from the air.
My camera therefore almost always comes with me on my travels. I love to take photographs during the blue and golden hours, when light and colour give a place a slightly different atmosphere. In addition, aerial photography is playing an increasingly important role in my work. With a drone, I can show landscapes, water, cities and architecture from a perspective that remains hidden when viewed from the ground.
My photography takes me from Friesland and the Dutch coast to cities and landscapes far beyond. In doing so, I seek not only well-known places, but above all strong compositions, special circumstances and images that evoke tranquillity, atmosphere or a sense of wonder.
In this collection, you’ll find a selection of my favourite photographs, taken both close to home and from the other side of the world. Images captured during my travels, which I hope will convey, even when hung on a wall, the essence of that place, that light and that single moment.
