About the artwork

The Buick Electra 225 was produced in the 6th generation until 1990. There were various models such as Custom, Limited and Park Avenue as a saloon, coupé and convertible. There were also smaller sister models called Invicta and Le Sabre. The name Electra 225 is derived from the length of the first model, which was approximately 225 inches (5.71 metres).

Buick Electra 225 (1959-1960) 1st generation
The Electra 225 belonged to the upper middle class. The top model was the Electra 225 Riviera, a four-door, six-window hardtop saloon without a B-pillar. It had a length of 5,725 mm (225.4 in). With its Deltawings protruding at the rear and the extra-long version with a wheelbase of 3,208 mm, it was already an imposing appearance. Its expansive high radiator grille with its numerous cubes was another recognisable feature that is still there today. It simply stands out from the crowd with its length of almost 6 metres and if you see this Buick at classic car meetings, there are always people standing around it to admire it. The engine is a 401-in3 Nailhead V8 with 6572 cm3 and Carter twin-barrel carburettor. This gave the first-generation '59 Electra an output of 325 SAE hp (239 kW) at 4400 rpm.
This power was also necessary for the body, which weighed an average of 2.2 tonnes. Due to its size, performance and equipment, the Electra was categorised in the upper luxury segment.

121,807 units of the 1st generation were sold across all models.
