A Haflinger in profile with gold leaf against a black background by Laura Georgi Tier- und Ladschaftsfotografie

A Haflinger is depicted in profile facing right; its head almost completely fills the picture. A curved trail of real gold leaf flakes runs across its forehead and cheek, ending in a few larger pieces at the cheekbone. In the left side of the mane are a dark red rose, an orange dahlia and eucalyptus leaves. The background is entirely black, with no smoke and no highlights.

Gold leaf is one of the thinnest materials that can be worked by hand: it is hammered down to around one ten-thousandth of a millimetre and is then so thin that light shines through it. On the coat, it acts not as a colour but as a mirror. This is why the trail changes with every viewing angle, whilst the coat beside it remains matt.

The tight cropping makes this motif the most serene in the series. No butterflies, no smoke, no hearts – just animals, flowers and gold. It is suitable for hallways, living rooms, bedrooms, surgeries and offices, and can be displayed all year round.

On canvas, the gold appears warm and understated, whilst on acrylic glass the individual flakes sparkle distinctly. A gift for Haflinger owners, riding club members and anyone looking for a horse picture that needs no further decoration.
