A dahlia forms the colourful centrepiece, whilst a bumblebee makes a very subtle appearance amongst the petals. In the background, countless soft bokeh circles of light create a dreamy atmosphere. The warm colours and the interplay of light and blur give the photo an almost painterly quality.
If you look closely, you’ll spot another small, playful detail: a second bumblebee flying in at that very moment. It’s captured slightly out of focus, but that’s precisely what makes the photo so special to me. It gives the image a sense of movement and shows that nature cannot be staged. Everything happened at exactly that one moment.
The combination of the dahlia’s rich colours, the subtly present bumblebee and the abundance of soft bokeh makes this photograph, for me, more than just a flower photo. It is a small slice of nature in which everything comes together in a special way.
I love capturing not just the flower itself, but also the atmosphere around it. It’s precisely the details you might not notice straight away that make you keep looking at a photo and discover something new every time.
A colourful and atmospheric work of art that combines the vibrancy of nature with the tranquillity of a dreamy background. A special piece to hang on the wall, for anyone who loves flowers, insects and the little wonders that nature reveals to us.
Adje is a photographer with a penchant for flowers of all shapes and sizes. Although the dahlia is her favourite. She tries to capture the essence of a flower with her camera. Sometimes in a picturesque way. Other times the flower pops off the picture.
