About ‘A beach walk with Yin and Yang’ by Arjen Roos

A Beach Walk with Yin and Yang is an immersive artwork that explores the profound harmony between light and darkness. Inspired by an earlier photomontage in which a model was exposed with a studio flash under an umbrella, this work has undergone a surprising evolution. Originally set on a rainy evening in Rotterdam, the concept transformed into this digital mixed media artwork into a poetic beach scene where day and night converge.

The image shows a woman with an elegant parasol moving across a beach. One half of the composition is illuminated by the radiant sun, while the other half is shrouded in mysterious moonlight. This powerful contrast symbolises yin and yang-the balance of opposites that not only complement each other, but are necessary for each other. The fluid transition between light and dark reflects a fundamental principle: in photography, art and life itself, everything revolves around finding an artistic and philosophical balance.
