In the dim light of the sacred space of Wat Long Koon, deep in the heart of Luang Prabang, we encounter the face of the Awakened One - silent, golden, timeless. The statue of Buddha, in the gesture of earth-witnessing (Bhumispara mudra), anchored in the moment of enlightenment, rests in unshakeable presence. The finger symbolically touches the earth as a witness to his truth, while the world still slumbers in darkness.
Golden leaves cover his face, partly faded, partly shining - a symbol of transience and at the same time of the eternal. His eyes are half open, looking inwards and yet through the viewer, as if reflecting the infinite compassion that once awoke under the Bodhi tree. His head, crowned with flaming wisdom, rises against a deep red background, from which golden silhouettes of other Buddhas emerge like silent guardians of the path.
It is an image of silence, yet full of sound - the sound of awakening, of letting go, of inner clarity. Time loses its weight here. Those who find themselves in front of this face may feel a hint of that great emptiness that is not nothingness, but the fullness of all being.
