A foggy startup.
The history of the Mijzen is characterized by struggle: the struggle against the water, the struggle against the new polders about the drainage and the struggle between the three parts of which the polder consisted administratively: West Mijzen, East Mijzen and the northern part. Westmijzen was independent for a short time and then fell under the old Schermer and later under Schermerhorn (now the municipality of Schermer). Oostmijzen fell under de Veenhoop and later Avenhorn (now municipality of Wester-Koggenland). The northern part fell under Ursem (now also Wester-Koggenland municipality).
In 1889 the polder was still hit by a flood. The result was a lack of unity in the maintenance of the ring dike (too late 'gemeenmaking').
