About the artwork

An acrylic ink drawing of a green-cheeked conure preening its feathers. The bird is busy brushing its tail. He has a tail feather in his beak. One feather is completely bent as he holds it by the tip.The painting style is coarse with a lot of water which makes the whole thing appear somewhat blotchy. To emphasise this effect, some ink splashes have been added in the background. The drawing is drawn on a warm paper texture. A drawing The green-cheeked parakeet (Pyrrhura molinae) or green-cheeked parakeet is a small parrot of the genus Pyrrhura, which is part of a long-tailed group of the subfamily Arinae of the New World Parrot. The term parrotbird is often used for this parrot and its relatives in aviculture. Native to the forests of South America, the green-cheeked parakeet is typically 26 cm long and weighs 60 to 80 g. It is predominantly green, with a brown/black/grey crown, white periophthalmic rings, green cheeks, blue primary wing feathers, a grey bill, and its long pointed tail is usually chestnut brown. It has short transverse stripes on its breast and a red belly region. Males and females have an identical appearance. Green-cheeked parakeets are common as pets and are popular companion parrots. They are playful, affectionate and intelligent, known as a "big personality in a small body". They can learn to talk, albeit with a limited vocabulary and a hoarse voice. They love to be held (although some like that more than others) and can learn tricks such as lying on their backs, "kissing", shaking, hanging upside down and can even be house-trained.
