It is 5 a.m. when the alarm clock rings. Today, I am going to the Punt van Reide, near Termunten (Groningen).
The conditions are good, namely: a low water level and partly cloudy.
From the visitor centre, it's about a 1,000-metre walk to the dike. Climbing over it, we see the Wad, a spectacular nature reserve where you can enjoy the peace and quiet and nature for a while.
I then walk to the the Wadden where I trudge through the mud flats and set up my tripod as far as the meandering channels. I don't go any further because otherwise it gets very exciting underfoot. By now I am ankle-deep in mud.
I wait a little longer and the sun comes out, the sky turns a beautiful orange and I take my pictures.
Quietly I swallow back to shore because I don't want to fall down. Back on the shore, I enjoy the moment for a while and decide to walk back to the car.
The day has started well!
