A sky on fire on Sky - sunset on the island of Sky in Scotland
A beautiful and unexpected sunset over the mountains on the island of Sky off the coast of Scotland. On the way back from a beautiful day of photographing on the island, the sky was closing in and the chances of a beautiful sunset seemed slim. But as luck would have it in the mountains and on the coast, the weather can change quickly, and just at the right moment, the skies opened up a little more. What followed was a magical spectacle with almost blood-red cloudscapes, bright contrasts and beautiful colours.
This vista particularly appeals to me because of the last light that just barely falls on the White House at the foot of the mountain. It shows the grandeur of the landscape.
For me, the photo exudes menace because of the great contrasts but at the same time calmness because of the emptiness of the landscape.
The photo was taken out of hand with a long telephoto lens to compress the landscape and bring it towards you.
A beautiful atmospheric landscape photo that actually feels at home in any interior.
