The traditional village of Ratenggaro in West Sumba, NTT, Indonesia. Why the people here build such high roofs is not entirely clear but it seems to have something to do with status. And they are a very proud people, they like to boast. So the higher the status, or the other way around; the higher you can make your roof (requires craftsmanship but also money of course) the higher your status in the village.
