An elderly batik artist applies hot wax to a white cloth. When the entire cloth is filled with the pattern, the cloth is dipped in a bath of textile paint, then dried. It is then dipped into a hot bath which washes away the wax, revealing the empty spaces where the wax has been. Depending on the complexity of the pattern, this process can be repeated several times, with a different color each time.
