It could be a satellite photo of a river delta, on Earth or even another, exotic, planet. Only the birds, especially the individual just above the centre, give scale to the image.
This photo was taken on a sunny autumn day from the dike on Sint-Philipsland in Zeeland, The Netherlands. It is low tide on the Eastern Scheldt, where there is still a tidal range thanks to the open storm surge barrier. The drying sandbanks and the gullies between them form a pattern you can look at endlessly.
