I took this black-and-white photo of a Scots pine on the Beekhuizerzand in the municipality of Harderwijk. I chose to photograph only the trunk and a bit of the roots of this Scots pine. It really is a typical Veluwe picture. You can see from the roots of the pine that sand has been pushed away, which is not surprising on a sand drift. Scots pines can withstand having their roots exposed, they can even withstand being pushed under the sand. As you can see from the tree trunk, it was sunny when I took the photo, but in the background you can also see that there were clouds. I chose to convert this photo to black and white. I chose the portrait orientation to emphasise the height of the trunk and to be able to include part of the roots. I like the contrast between the sun side and the shadow side of the trunk. Scots pines on a sand drift or on a moor I find beautiful trees to photograph anyway because they are all different in shape.
