About ‘A view over Vik , Iceland’ by Henk v Hoek

Vík is Iceland's southernmost village. It has less than 300 inhabitants, yet is the main centre of a large part of Iceland. It is known for its jet-black sandy beach. The coastal village does not have a harbour. In the past, fishing boats were pushed into the sea from the beach. From the end of the 19th century, the village developed more as a trading town. Vík is located in mountainous terrain. To the west of the village, for example, lies the 340-metre-high Reynisfjall. East of the village begin the great black washes that define much of the face of Iceland's southern coast. The first of these is the Mýrdalssandur. Vík has the dubious honour of being the village with the highest rainfall in all of Iceland. As can be seen in the picture, here you will find the main attractions of this pretty village. The church , the rocks and a strip of black beach. The church was built between 1932 and 1934 , but it is also probably one of the most photographed churches in Iceland !
If you ever go to Iceland , this is definitely a must-see !!!
