About ‘After the rain – Pieterpad’ by Wietske Westra

This work is part of my series ‘Spring – Pieterpad’, inspired by my walks along the Pieterpad.

In early spring, the landscape is still wet. Puddles linger along the path and the sky is constantly changing. In this image, you can see an open field with a row of posts along the path. In the foreground are puddles reflecting the light and the sky. The greenery is fresh and the landscape feels open and in motion.

The work is created using chalk. Working in layers creates soft transitions whilst keeping the texture visible. For me, this work is about those moments after the rain. When everything is still quiet, but you can sense that spring is already on its way. In an interior, this work brings a sense of calm and a fresh, natural atmosphere.
