About the artwork

Albert Gleizes (1881-1953) was an important French painter, theorist and co-founder of Cubism. Together with artists such as Jean Metzinger, he shaped the development of this revolutionary art movement, which dissolved traditional perspectives and depicted the world in geometric forms and abstract compositions.

Gleizes was not only a painter, but also an influential writer. His book "Du Cubisme", which he published together with Metzinger in 1912, is considered one of the first theoretical works on Cubism. In his works, Gleizes experimented with the depiction of movement, time and space, often inspired by industrial and urban scenes.

Over the course of his life, he increasingly turned to abstract art and spiritual themes, which is reflected in his later works. Gleizes left behind a multifaceted legacy that encompasses both his painting and his theoretical contributions to art history.
