The Parcen was the name by which the goddesses of honor appeared in the Roman religion.
Originally they were old-Italian deities, but early on they were completely identified with the Greek goddesses (Moiren).
At first they were deities of birth and death, but later they became deities of fate and as such were also called Fata.
Even the gods feared the Parcen and Iuppiter himself was subject to their power. The three Parcen were:
Nona: she spun the thread of life from her spinning skirt onto her bobbin;
Decima: she measured the thread of life with her stick
Morta: it was she who cut the lifeline. She chose the way someone died. When she cut the thread with her detested scissors, someone on earth died.
