About "Allée des Baobabs"

About the artwork

Avenue de Baobab, or also called Baobab Alley, one of the sights to see when visiting the island of Madagascar. The Baobab is not for nothing the national tree of the country!
You have to make an effort, because it is a huge island located off the African east coast, the roads are bad and the travel times to get somewhere are long. But once you are in the middle of these huge giants of trees, whether at sunrise or sunset, you know that a visit to these beautiful decorative trees is more than worth every trip.
From a distance, it seems as if the trees have fallen upside down from the sky with their roots pointing upwards. The African Baobabs stand out because of their enormous thick trunk which can grow between 11 and 34 meters in circumference. In this trunk the trees store water in the wet season as a reserve for the dry season. In this way, the trees can grow up to 2000 years old. The bark of the baobab tree is eaten by elephants while baboons like to eat the fruits. That's why the Baobab is also called monkey bread tree.
