This work is an atmospheric landscape image that captures the tranquillity of the Dutch polder landscape on a foggy day. The composition is dominated by a strong diagonal: a sandy path winds into the soft distance, surrounded by bright green fields. The focus is on the immediate foreground, where a piece of rough, old barbed wire hangs over a wooden post. This detail creates an intriguing contrast between the softness of nature and the harshness of the human boundary.
My inspiration lay in capturing the layering of the landscape and the feeling of an indefinite journey. The vague, blurred distance emphasises depth and invites the viewer to follow the path. The soft yellow and white flowers offer a delicate counterpart to the cool, grey light and rusty metal.
The atmosphere is one of calm, melancholy and openness. The sculpture evokes a sense of freedom and, at the same time, limitation.
This work is special in interiors seeking a soothing, horizontal image. It combines the recognisable beauty of the Dutch landscape with a narrative and poetic detail in the foreground.
"Between soft and sharp; an invitation to the journey, captured behind the rough, poetic line of the barbed wire."
