The Amalfi Coast, Costiera amalfitana or Costa d'Amalfi in Italian, is located on the west coast of Italy about 40 kilometres south of Naples.
The Amalfi Coast is a good 40 kilometres of rugged and jagged coastline on the Italian Gulf of Salerno in the south of the Sorrento Peninsula. The most famous towns on the Amalfi Coast are Amalfi, Positano and Ravello. The stretch of coast between Positano and Vietri sul Mare has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997.
Amalfi is located in the middle of the Amalfi Coast and is a popular holiday destination in southern Italy. It is a town in the Italian region of Campania and the capital of the Amalfi Coast. The Amalfi Coast owes its name to this pretty town.
Positano is probably the most beautiful town on the Amalfi Coast. The former fishing village looks like it was painted. Colourful houses built directly into the rugged slopes like steps, narrow, romantic alleyways lined with small boutiques and cosy cafés, steep steps leading to small squares and colourfully decorated house entrances, and a beach with probably the most beautiful view of the entire Amalfi Coast with its dramatic cliffs and crystal-clear water.
