The American bald eagle or white-faced sea eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) is a bird of prey that breeds in Canada and the United States. The bird was on the verge of extinction at the end of the 20th century, but the population has now recovered to a stable level.
In contrast to the African white-tailed eagle, the American white-tailed eagle has a beak that is entirely yellow. The adult bird is completely dark brown with a white head and tail.
Adult females have a wingspan of about 200 cm, up to 244 cm. The males are about 25% smaller than the females.
