The Westertoren is a famous church tower in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The Westertoren stands in the western part of Amsterdam's city centre, near the Westerkerk. The tower is about 85 metres high. It is possible to climb the tower, and from the top you have a great view of the city. The Westertoren has a carillon with 50 bells.
Construction of the Westertoren began in 1620 and was completed in 1638. The tower is part of the Westerkerk, a Protestant church located next to it. The Westerkerk is one of the oldest surviving Protestant churches in the Netherlands.
The Westertoren is also known for its proximity to the Anne Frank house. During World War II, Anne Frank wrote in her diary about the sound of the Westertoren, which was a source of comfort for her.
