Tips for use

Point your camera at the floor or a piece of furniture first, then move it slowly up towards the wall. A bare white wall is hard for your phone to recognise.
Move your phone gently from side to side. Holding it still or waving it around quickly does not help.
Make sure there is enough light. In a dark room your phone has nothing to lock onto.

About ‘An Empty Stare in the Mirror’ by Dwaal de Tinten

The unsettling image of a faceless mannequin admiring itself in the mirror.

Personally, I prefer mannequins with faces – the older generation of mannequins. However, the expressionless mannequin that adorns shop windows these days has its own unique charm.

It is precisely those human gestures that a mannequin can never perform, yet which still give us, the viewers, a sense of recognition.

We have all looked at ourselves in the mirror, but do we see who we really are, or is it merely a shell staring back at us?

This work is intended to invite reflection on this, and of course it may simply be seen as a beautiful shop-window photograph.
