A beautiful sunset on Langkawi Island (Malaysia). Langkawi is the northernmost archipelago on the western side of the Malaysia peninsula. It is a stunning tropical island, with beautiful beaches and a spectacular interior. The archipelago consists of the main island of Langkawi and nearly 100 small surrounding islets, only a few of which are permanently inhabited. The island is located some'30km off the coast and falls within the state of Kedah. Langkawi covers 479 square kilometres and in 2007 it was declared a UNESCO Geopark. It has about's 100,000 inhabitants, most of whom live in the capital Kuah. The rest of the population lives scattered in a number of small villages and around a good number of resorts.
