About the artwork

Eptil Lacerti

Eptil Lacerti is a wealthy construction magnate and the inventor of the negative skeg, which has made him treasureously rich. Not everyone will know exactly what a skeg is. A skeg is a triangular or wedge-shaped support often used in construction to provide stability and strength to a structure, for example in roof structures. The invention of the negative skeg is beyond brilliant. It prevents the wood from tipping over. In fact, if that happens, the slope and water drainage will start running towards the middle of the roof, and that is no longer possible. Flipping the wood can have unpredictable and serious consequences. The structure can then start to work the other way round and this must be prevented at all times. That is now thankfully a thing of the past thanks to Eptil's invention. Eptil keeps it a serious secret how he came up with this. The negative skeg can therefore only be ordered through his company. The negative skeg is registered under patent number WO167390-2003-B with the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). Eptil Lacerti's company is called Rafter Tie Lacerti Inc and is registered in England at Companies House in Cardiff. Little else is known of Eptil; he is more like a recluse and does not show himself often. It is rumoured, albeit via the gossip columns, that he collects insects around the world and then eats them. However, this has never been proven, and would be undesirable, as it carries a hefty prison sentence of 13 and a half years and will ruin his business.
