About ‘Anthony van Leeuwenhoek’
Antoni van Leeuwenhoek (Delft, 24 October 1632 - there, 26 August 1723) was a Dutch merchant, surveyor, wine rower, glassblower and microbiologist. Van Leeuwenhoek is best known for his self-manufactured microscope and his pioneering work in cell biology and microbiology. From 1674 he made many discoveries which became known through his correspondence with the Royal Society in London.
