Atlantis (Ancient Greek: Ἀτλαντίς, "island of Atlas"[1]) is a mythical island kingdom whose historicity is unclear. Atlantis was first mentioned in Plato's dialogues Timaeus and Critias. Due to a catastrophe, the empire is said to have suddenly disappeared around 9600 BC.
