In early February, it had been snowing. I thought it would be interesting to take photos in the centre of our village at night. In Naaldwijk, around the Oude Kerk you will find a wonderful, wonderfully beautiful, piece of history. Architecture, as applied in a very distant past, has been preserved there. Materials, construction methods, dimensions, it takes you to a beautiful piece of history. The Old Church, for example, was built around 1350. The Heilige Geesthofje dates from the 17th century. You will find this beautiful courtyard (highly recommended) in one of the side streets, if you follow the alley in the photo. The alley in the photo is covered in snow. No one present, peace and quiet all around. A real winter evening. This photo exudes an atmosphere that could easily be compared to the style and mood that Charles Dickens managed to describe so beautifully in his books.
I chose a slightly lower viewpoint when I took the photo. This gives a certain complement to the atmosphere described above. Cosy, relaxed, longing for peace and quiet, just nothing at all....
Naaldwijk, the beautiful old centre. I love taking photos there. In every season, at every moment of the day. Grateful for what has been preserved. Homage to the many generations before us, hopefully we will also leave something behind for the generations after us....
