This photo captures Fuji-san in full majesty as seen from the surroundings of Lake Motosu, one of the quietest and least built-up Fuji Five Lakes. The volcano stands elegant and isolated in the landscape, with a subtle strip of snow on the summit that contrasts beautifully with the warm, golden sky.
The foreground is filled with rich autumnal tones: deep reds, warm ochres and soft greens that give the scene an almost painterly depth. The still waters of the lake form a gentle mirror, with the reflection enhancing the tranquillity and balance of this iconic view.
The whole scene feels serene, classic and timelessly Japanese - a landscape where the enormous power of the volcano and the fragile beauty of momiji coexist harmoniously.
UNESCO status:
Fuji-san itself is listed on the World Heritage List as "Fujisan, sacred place and source of artistic inspiration." The lakes surrounding the volcano, including Lake Motosu, are part of the cultural landscape associated with this inscription.
