This painting is part of my long series entitled ELEPHANTS. I am probably the only artist in the world who has depicted the elephant in many different techniques and styles. You can see several of them on Artmajeur.
? I painted this miniature elephant in a naturalistic style with detailed yellow/grey tones. The baby elephant's large ears in particular dominate this painting. Naturalism is part of classical painting and usually depicts flora and fauna.
? In Africa, numerous baby elephants are orphaned every year. If they are found, and are lucky in all the misfortune, they are sent to an elephant orphanage (Sheldrick Wildlife Trust) in Kenya, for example. There they are cared for, looked after and later released into the wild in a protected area.
Elephants in the wild are unfortunately threatened with extinction, mainly due to poaching and habitat destruction by humans, climate change and other threats! The greed for ivory continues unabated, especially on the Asian market. There are only around 400,000 specimens left in Africa, which is alarming. When you buy one of my pictures, I donate to elephant conservation projects. A purchase will benefit these wonderful animals. Thank you very much.
