Baden-Württemberg : Black and white - Wiblingen Monastery - Ulm was photographed by Photoart-Naegele in August 2025.
The picture shows Wiblingen Monastery, a former Benedictine abbey near Ulm. It is an outstanding example of late baroque and early classicist architecture in Upper Swabia.
Foundation: The abbey was originally founded in 1093. However, most of the complex visible today was built in the 18th century.
Architecture: The monastery church shown here, St Martin's, is a masterpiece of early classicism. It forms the centrepiece of the symmetrically laid out monastery complex.
Façade: The façade of the church is monumental and austere, which is typical of the transition from Baroque to Classicism. However, it was never fully completed.
Special features: Wiblingen Monastery is known for its magnificent rococo library hall, which is considered one of the most beautiful in Germany.
