Imagine, suddenly the ground opens up in front of you and you look into the depths. It seems as if a temple has been planted upside down in the ground with a top on the ground that normally points to the sky. The stepwells (Baoris) in India are fascinating. Hypnotic patterns are formed by the stairs that run down until they disappear under water. The stairs offer an unreal spectrum of colors, enhanced by the power of nature. Lines and shapes are enhanced or even newly created by light and shadow. The large baori in Jodhpur formed the basis for this multi-layered photographic work.
