Barcelona, the architectural district of this unique building is called Eixample. Eixample means extension and was built when the city of Barcelona began to develop in the mid-19th century. Eixample is a neighbourhood in Barcelona. This tourist area lies between the old city and the small towns around it. The city of Eixample is characterised by long straight streets, with wide avenues at the intersections. Within this intersection, uniformly standing rectangular building blocks with obtuse corners form an octagon. This regular and uniform urban design is the masterpiece of Spanish architect Ildefons Cerda, who widened the roads at each intersection. He also cut the corner of the street into an obtuse shape and formed an octagon. The goal in the 19th century was for carriages to turn more easily. So seen from the air, the buildings in this Eixample area seem to have a similar shape, namely a square. However, all Cerda's plans were not as perfect as he had hoped, and the architects who built the Eixample district did not follow the pattern of the Cerda line. Even though the shape is the same, the road at the junction is not built as wide as the design described by Cerda. In addition, the garden section is also removed. Now, when visiting the Eixample district, tourists are treated to beautiful views of buildings with modernist architecture. Today, almost all buildings in Eixample are the work of architects Ildefons Cerda and Antoni Gaudi.
