The Waal is a Dutch river. Near Pannerden the Rhine splits into the Pannerdensch Kanaal, which 6 km further becomes the Nederrijn, and the Waal. The Waal is by far the most water-rich arm of the Rhine in the Netherlands (65% of the water discharge) and also the most important for shipping. The total length of the Waal is 82 km.
