Giant hogweed (Heracleum mantegazzianum) is a perennial plant in the umbellifer family (Apiaceae).
In the 19th century, the giant hogweed was introduced from the Caucasus into Europe as a garden plant. In the Benelux, this exotic plant is fully native. In 2010, the giant hogweed is increasingly found in urban areas and, partly because of the harmful effects of the sap of this plant on skin and eyes, increasingly experienced as a problem.
