The Sacré-Coeur (Dutch: Sacré-Coeur Basilica) is a basilica in Paris. He is on the hill of Montmartre in the 18th district in Paris is dedicated to the Sacred Heart.
The church is remarkable for its bright white appearance, and prominent location on a hill. To reach the church, one can climb 222 steps or take the Montmartre Funicular (cable car). At the top one has view over a large part of Paris.
Sacre Coeur Basilica is built entirely of travertine, a relatively soft (and somewhat porous) stone, taken from the French department of Seine-et-Marne. Travertine is limestone and rain produces a white lime layer on the outside, leaving the basilica remains very white in color, in spite of the dirt and grime of the city. Against acid rain Travertine less resistant.
