About ‘Beach house on the North Sea coast’ by Matthias Stolt
The photo was taken in Westerland on the North Sea island of Sylt. This beach hut is normally used for beach chair hire and lifeguarding. On this stormy day, the hut was closed and the waves were lashing against the promenade. I was drawn to capturing this force of nature in a photograph. The sepia tone gives the image a nostalgic feel.

I worked as a freelance photo designer for 25 years. My focus was on fashion and advertising photography. I am also the author of numerous books and articles in trade magazines.
Before becoming self-employed, I worked in marketing for a large camera manufacturer, where I was in charge of public relations.
I discovered my love of photography during my training as a retoucher. This sparked a desire not only to edit photos, but to take them myself.
