Walking through the gardens of the Alhambra in Granada, Andalusia, this beautiful peacock strutted jauntily around as the ruler of its surroundings. The colour palette and design of its exceptional feathers, it is always astonishing how evolution has developed something so beautiful and elegant.
The proverb "As proud as a peacock" is therefore an apt expression. For us Westerners who are not so richly endowed with exceptionally coloured birds, this peacock is certainly high on the list. If you add to this its spread tail, the so-called Pronken, the spectacle is complete and the bird shows off its splendour in all its glory.
This one made it a little less exciting in this moment, but elegantly glided past us over the old terracotta tiles on its way to some spilled breadcrumbs from an unsuspecting passer-by. At least for that moment, this particular bird in the gardens of the Alhambra made the overall picture just that little bit more beautiful.
