The historic Carmo Monastery in Lisbon, Portugal. The former monastery and associated church, located in the Chiado district has been consolidated in its damaged state as a result of the severe Lisbon Earthquake of 1755.
Now it houses an archaeological museum with the former church and monastery as its main subject. A beautiful place, well cared for and inside in a covered area clear presentations of objects belonging to monastery and church from almost 300 years ago.
The building is located in the historic heart of Lisbon, surrounded by many beautiful buildings worth seeing. The allure of a rich and highly developed city is evident everywhere. With public transport and historic trams in abundance, all sights are easily accessible.
At least for 3 full days, we enjoyed the history Lisbon has to offer, the cosiness in streets, alleys and squares that prevails even in the evening. The friendliness of its residents, and above all, a clean and tidy city. A relief to stroll around in a Mediterranean atmosphere.
We look back with pleasure at the beautiful images we took there, recalling the atmosphere of our stay there. The monastery is directly accessible via the upper exit of the historic Santa-Justa Lift, a lift built in the style and atmosphere of the Eifel Tower.
